  • Alauddin Khilji built Siri Fort in Delhi and made it his capital.
  • Balban built his tomb and the Lal Mahal in Delhi.

Alauddin Khilji (1296-1316 AD)
  • In 1296 AD, Alauddin Khilji succeeded Jalal-ud-din Firoz Khilji and ascended the throne.
  • He was the first Sultan who invaded South India.
  • He sent his confidant and general Malik Kafur against the rulers of the south.
  • He built a mosque in Rameswaram.
  • He was the first to introduce a standing army system.
  • He built the Alai Darwaza, the palace of a thousand pillars and the fort of Siri.
  • He also taxed the land of these middlemen, he was the first Sultan of Delhi Sultanate.
  • The one who first collected the revenue by metering the land, he collected 50% of the agricultural produce as land tax, he confiscated a lot of land and converted it into Khalsa land.
  • He had also built the entrance gate of Qutub Minar "Alai Darwaza". This door has very attractive shaped arches, it also has a dome which is the first dome made in a scientifically correct manner, Hauz Khas by Alauddin Khilji, a thousand pillared palace, Jamaat A- Khana Masjid was built. 
Political aspect
  • Ala-ud-din followed the divine right principle of kingship.
  • He brought four ordinances to prevent repeated rebellions.
  • They confiscated the sacred grants and free grants of land.
  • He restructured the espionage system.
  • He introduced a permanent standing army.
  • He introduced the system of branding of horses and descriptive roster of individual soldiers to prevent corruption.
  • They fixed prices of essential commodities which were below normal market rates.
  • They followed discriminatory policies towards Hindus and imposed jizya, a grazing tax and a house tax on the Hindu community.
