Given below are two quantities named A & B. Based on the given information; you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose between the possible answers.
Quantity A∶ Number of days required by Y to complete work alone, if X and Y together can complete work in 30 days. Given that after they start working together, X leaves the work after 12 days and Y completed the remaining work in 24 days.
Quantity B∶ Number of days required by P to complete work alone, if P and Q together can complete work in 18 days. Given that after they start working together, Q leaves the work after 8 days and P completed the remaining work in 30 days.
  • a)
    Quantity A > Quantity B
  • b)
    Quantity A < Quantity B
  • c)
    Quantity A ≥ Quantity B
  • d)
    Quantity A ≤ Quantity B
  • e)
    Quantity A = Quantity B or No relation
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?

Given below are two quantities named A & B. Based on the given inf...
Quantity A∶
Suppose the efficiencies of X and Y are ‘x’ & ‘y’ respectively;
According to the given condition∶
⇒ 30x + 30y = 12x + 36y
⇒ 18x = 6y
⇒ x/y = 1/3
Hence, the efficiencies of X and Y are ‘a’ & ‘3a’ respectively;
Since X and Y together can complete work in 30 days;
∴ Total work = 30 × (a + 3a) = 120a units
∴ Number of days required by Y to complete work alone = 120a/3a = 40 days
Quantity B∶
Suppose the efficiencies of P and Q are ‘p’ & ‘q’ respectively;
According to the given condition∶
⇒ 18p + 18q = 8q + 38p
⇒ 20p = 10q
⇒ p/q = 1/2
Hence, the efficiencies of P and Q are ‘b’ & ‘2b’ respectively;
Since P and Q together can complete work in 18 days;
∴ Total work = 18 × (2b + b) = 54b units
∴ Number of days required by P to complete work alone = 54b/b = 54 days
∴ Quantity A < Quantity B

Given below are two quantities named A & B. Based on the given inf...
Explanation:

Given Data:
- X and Y together can complete the work in 30 days.
- X leaves after working for 12 days, and Y completes the remaining work in 24 days.
- P and Q together can complete the work in 18 days.
- Q leaves after working for 8 days, and P completes the remaining work in 30 days.

Calculating Quantity A:
- Let the number of days Y requires to complete the work alone be Y.
- X's work in 12 days + Y's work in 24 days = 1 (whole work)
- (12/30) + (24/Y) = 1
- 2/5 + 24/Y = 1
- 24/Y = 3/5
- Y = 40 days

Calculating Quantity B:
- Let the number of days P requires to complete the work alone be P.
- P's work in 30 days + Q's work in 8 days = 1 (whole work)
- (30/P) + (8/18) = 1
- 30/P = 5/9
- P = 54 days

Comparison:
- Quantity A (40 days) is less than Quantity B (54 days).
- Therefore, Quantity A < quantity="" />
Therefore, the correct answer is option B. Quantity A is less than Quantity B.
