x+y = 6------(1)
4x+7y = 36------(2)
Multiply by 4 in equation (1)
⇒ 4x+4y = 24------(3)
Subtract equation (2) from equation (3)
⇒ 4x+7y−4x−4y = 36−24
⇒ 3y = 12
⇒ y = 4
Putting y=4 in equation (1)
⇒ x = 6−4
⇒ x = 2
∴ The value of x and y is 2 and 4.
