The Elephanta caves are located on an island in the Arabian City, not very far from the city of Mumbai. The chain of sculpted caves located on Elephanta Island is also known as Gharapuri. The caves are carved in solid basalt rock and lie 10 kilometers east to the city of Mumbai.
