Given:
Average of 10 numbers = 18.2
Average of first 4 numbers = 16.6
Average of last 7 numbers = 20.8
As we know,
Average = Sum of observations/No of observations
Average of 10 numbers = 18.2
⇒ sum of 10 numbers/10 = 18.2
⇒ Sum of 10 numbers = 18.2×10
= 182
Similarly, sum of first 4 numbers =16.6×4
= 66.4
Sum of last 7 numbers = 20.8×7
= 145.6
4th number will be = Sum of first 4 numbers + Sum of last 7 numbers − Sum of 10 numbers
= 66.4+145.6−182
= 30
Now,
Average of remaining 9 numbers = ((Sum of 10 numbers - forth number)/9)
= (182−30)/9
= 152/9
= 16.88 or 16.9
∴ The required result is 16.9.
Average of 10 numbers = 18.2
Average of first 4 numbers = 16.6
Average of last 7 numbers = 20.8
