A 2.5 kg iron ball has the same diameter as a 1.25 kg aluminium ball. The balls are dropped at the same time from a cliff. Just before they reach the ground, they have same:
  • a)
    Acceleration
  • b)
    Momentum
  • c)
    Kinetic energy
  • d)
    Potential energy
Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
A 2.5 kg iron ball has the same diameter as a 1.25 kg aluminium ball. ...
The mass of both the balls are different,
When they are dropped from some height then,
Kinetic energy KE = 1/2 mv2 which is dependent upon mass of the body. So, both K.E will be different.
Momentum p = m×v which is also dependent upon mass of the body. So both momentum will be different.
Potential energy U = mgh which is also dependent upon mass. So, P.E. of both will be different.
Acceleration  of both the bodies are independent of mass.
Since they are dropped from the same height final velocity will also be the same therefore acceleration is the correct option.
