(B). Compound (C) (cyclopentane carboxylic acid) on reduction with LiAIH4 forms cyclopentylmethanol which on dehydration gives cyclohexene. The dehydration step involves rearrangement in which the five-member ring expands into a six-member ring.
(C). Compound (C) (cyclopentanecarboxylic acid) on Schmidt's reaction gives cyclopentanamine (-COOH group is replaced with - NH2 group) which reacts with HNOto give (D) (cyclopentanol) as major product. Compound (D) (cyclopentanol) on dehydration gives cyclopentene.
