Verified Answer
Ann invested a certain sum of money in a bank that paid simple interes...
Concept: Simple interest earned remains same year after year.
At the end of 2 years: Value of investment (Amount) = $240
At the end of another 3 years: Value of investment (Amount) = $300
In 3 years, the sum grew by $60.
So interest for 3 years = $60.
Because Ann invested in simple interest, interest earned each year = $20.
Interest earned in the first 2 years = 2 × 20 = $40.
Therefore, principal = Sum at the end of 2 years - $40 = $240 - $40 = $200.
Principal invested $200
Choice A is the correct answer.

Ann invested a certain sum of money in a bank that paid simple interes...
Given Information:
- Amount after 2 years = $240
- Amount after 5 years = $300

Calculating the Interest:
- The interest earned in 3 years = $300 - $240 = $60
- Ann earned $60 in 3 years, so the annual interest rate is $60 / 3 = $20 per year.

Calculating the Principal Amount:
- At the end of 2 years, the amount was $240. If the annual interest rate is $20, then the principal amount can be calculated as follows:
- Principal amount + 2 years of interest = $240
- Principal amount + $40 = $240
- Principal amount = $240 - $40 = $200
Therefore, the principal amount that Ann invested at the beginning was $200. So, the correct answer is option A) $200.
