Solution:

Given,
rCs = 169 pm
rCl = 181 pm

To find: Edge length of the cube

We know that CsCl crystal structure is a simple cubic lattice with Cs+ ions occupying the corner positions and Cl- ions occupying the face-centred positions.

The coordination number (CN) of Cs+ ion is 8 since it is surrounded by 8 Cl- ions, and the CN of Cl- ion is 6 since it is surrounded by 6 Cs+ ions.

Let's assume that the edge length of the cube is 'a'.

Now, we can calculate the distance between the Cs+ ion at the corner and the Cl- ion at the face-centre as follows:

√3a/2 + rCl = rCs

√3a/2 = rCs - rCl

√3a/2 = 12 pm

a = 2(12/√3) pm

a = 404 pm

Therefore, the edge length of the cube is 404 pm.

Hence, the correct answer is option (d) 404 pm.
