Can you explain the answer of this question below:
Student was supposed to calculate the average of 10 numbers. He calculated the average as 261 but mistakenly took 34 instead of 43 and counted 12 twice. What is the actual average of 10 numbers?

Average of 10 numbers calculated = 261
As, 43 was mistakenly taken as 34,
deviation = 43-34 = 9
Also, 12 was counted twice, therefore, 12 needs to subtracted as well.

Total deviation = 9 +(- 12) = -3
Correct mean = incorrect mean + total deviation
= 261 - 0.3
= 260.7

To get the average of a set of numbers, you divide the total of those numbers by the amount of numbers you have. (Average = Sum of items / Number of items)
So getting a result of 261 as an average of 10 numbers means the total of those numbers would be 2610.
Now to find the correct average, we just have to correct the mistakes made in calculating the total. If 34 was taken instead of 43, then we need to add the difference (43–34=9) and if 12 was counted twice, we will now deduct 12 once.
Now dividing that by 10 gives us 2607/10 = 260.7 as the correct answer.
