We know that direction cosines of a line are unique Because the cosines of the angles made by a directed line segment with the coordinate axes are called as the direction cosines of that line but direction ratios of a line are in no way unique but can be infinite.
Example- If a, b, c are three numbers proportional to the direction cosine l, m, n of a straight line, then a, b, c are called its direction ratios and it may be less than or greater than a,b,c. So It may be more than one.
Also Direction cosines of the y axis = cos90^o, cos0^o, cos90^o = 0,1,0
