Exosphere

The exosphere is the outermost layer of Earth's atmosphere, extending from about 500 km to 10,000 km above the Earth's surface. This layer has very thin air, which gradually fades into space. Here, the gases are so sparse that they can travel hundreds of kilometers without colliding with one another.

Characteristics of the Exosphere:
- The exosphere is composed of very light gases like helium and hydrogen.
- Due to the extremely low density of the exosphere, these light gases can gain enough velocity to escape Earth's gravity and float into space.
- The temperature in the exosphere can vary greatly, ranging from very hot when exposed to the Sun's radiation, to very cold in the absence of sunlight.

Escape of Helium and Hydrogen:
- Helium and hydrogen are very light gases that have a tendency to rise to the top of the atmosphere.
- In the exosphere, these gases can reach escape velocity due to the low density of the air and the high temperature in this layer.
- Once they reach escape velocity, helium and hydrogen atoms can break free from Earth's gravitational pull and float into space.

In conclusion, the exosphere is the layer of the atmosphere where very thin air and light gases like helium and hydrogen can escape into space due to their low density and high temperatures.
