Solution:
As per the given information, the electricity charges paid on 1st October 2008 was for the year to 30 September 2009.
Hence, the electricity charges for the year ended 31 December 2009 would be a portion of the amount paid on 1st October 2008.

Calculation of electricity charges for the year ended 31 December 2009:
Electricity charges for the year to 30 September 2009 = Rs. 2,400
Time period for which electricity charges are to be calculated = 1st October 2008 to 31st December 2009 (15 months)
Electricity charges for 15 months = (2400/12) x 15 = Rs. 3,000
