Education is fundamental for achieving full human potential, developing an equitable and just society, and promoting national development. The National Education Policy emphasizes the development of each individual's creative potential, in all its richness and complexity.

It is based on the principle that education must develop not only cognitive skills - both ‘foundational skills’ of literacy and numeracy and ‘higher-order’ cognitive skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving – but also social and emotional skills - also referred to as ‘soft skills’ - including cultural awareness and empathy, perseverance and grit, teamwork, leadership, communication, among others.

The national FLN Mission is an important step of the Government of India towards ensuring that our children attain literacy and numeracy skills by Class III.

For this, the learning outcomes have been defined for six years in a continuum in six levels from Preschool to grade 3 (3-9 years).
