Which of the following ions is most unlikely to exist?a)Li–b)Be&...
Lets us First see the configuration of Atoms after taking one eletron- a) Lithium - 1s2 2s2. [3+1=4 electron] b) Berylium - 1s2 2s2 2p1. [4+1=5 electron] c)Boron - 1s2 2s2 2p2. [5+1= 6 electron] d)Fluorine - 1s2 2s2 2p6. [9+1=10 electron] Here we can see clearly, after getting one more eletron Lithium and Fluorine get stable (Full-filled orbital) and In Boron One elctron was already in 2p-Subshell and now one more electron added to the same subshell 2p So it will not affect its existence after getting this configuration. But but but In Berylium It was stable when it has valence orbital 2s2 but now after getting one more electron its configuration changed to 2s2 2p1 which is less stable than 2s2. So it is clear, In all above option Berylium negative ion is most unfavorable and most unlikely to exist

As per the electronic configuration of Be:- [He]2s2
After the addition of an electron, it enters the 2p orbital which is less penetrating than the 2s orbital.
