Green-house effect is increasing due to:a)Change in atmospheric pressu...
The greenhouse effect is increasing due to the change in the concentration of greenhouse gases.
Key-Points
Greenhouse gases:
  • They can absorb and emit the radiant energy within the thermal infrared range
  • Some of the major greenhouse gases are
water vapor, carbon dioxide, Methane, CFC, etc.
  • Some GHG from industrial sources are,
    • Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
    • Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
    • Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)
    • Nitrogen trifluoride (NF3)
  • GHG block the earth's heat going to space by terrestrial radiation
  • So this effect traps the heat energy and gradually cause global warming
Important Point
  • Some of the greenhouse effects are global warming, climatic change, sea-level change,
  • The concentration of GHG is gradually increasing in the atmosphere. For example, according to the UN climate change conference bulletin, the concentration of CO2 has increased by 147% in 2018 than that pre-industrial level measured in 1750.
  • The growth rate of CO2
    increased from 1.42 ppm/yr to 1.86 ppm/yr and to 2.06 ppm/yr in the concerning decades 1985–1995, 1995–2005, and 2005–2015.
  • It is shown by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Annual Greenhouse Gas Index,  the radiative forcing by long-lived greenhouse gases (LLGHGs) increased by 43%, with CO2 accounting for about 80% of this increase from 1990 to 2018.
  • Atmospheric methane reached a new high of about 1869 parts per billion (ppb) in 2018 and is now 259% of the pre-industrial level.
  • The concentration of Nitrous oxide 331.1 parts per billion in 2018 which is 123% of pre-industrial levels.
So it is clear that the concentration of GHG is gradually increasing as an effect of industrialization and developmental processes. Therefore, the greenhouse effect is increasing due to changes in the concentration of green-house gases.
