Roots rarely have Collenchyma but Collenchyma may occur in cortex of root if root is exposed to light.
Collenchyma is absent in monocots and roots due to early development of schlerenchyma.
Schlerenchyma provide mechanical strength to plants so there will be no need for development of Collenchyma.
