Explain the parts of the human excretory system?
Human Excretory System
The human excretory system is responsible for removing waste and excess materials from the body to maintain a healthy internal environment. It consists of several organs working together to eliminate waste products produced by the body's metabolic processes.
1. Kidneys
The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the spine. They filter blood and remove waste products, excess water, and electrolytes to form urine. The urine then travels to the bladder through the ureters.
2. Bladder
The bladder is a muscular sac that stores urine until it is expelled from the body. When the bladder is full, it sends signals to the brain to initiate the process of urination.
3. Ureters
Ureters are narrow tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder. They transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder through peristaltic contractions.
4. Urethra
The urethra is a tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body during urination. In males, the urethra also serves as a passage for semen.
5. Lungs
While primarily responsible for respiration, the lungs also play a role in excretion by removing carbon dioxide, a waste product of cellular respiration, from the body during exhalation.
6. Skin
The skin excretes waste products such as sweat, which contains water, salts, and small amounts of urea. Sweating helps regulate body temperature and eliminate certain toxins.
