Given: sum of two numbers = 2490
Let one no. = x
and
other no. = y
Therefore, acc. to the ques,
x+y=2490
⇒y=2490-x....(i)
Now,
if 6.5% of one number is equal to 8.5%of the other,
then
0.065x=0.085y....(ii)
Using (i) in (ii), we get,
0.065x=0.085(2490-x)
⇒0.065x=211.65-0.085x
⇒0.065x+0.085x=211.65
⇒0.15x=211.65
⇒x=211.65/0.15
⇒x=1411
Put the value of x=1411 in (i), we get,
⇒y=2490-1411
⇒y=1079
Hence, one number, x= 1411 and
other number, y=1079
