Number of Elements in Seventh Period of Modern Periodic Table

The seventh period of the modern periodic table consists of the elements that have their outermost electron in the seventh energy level or shell. The maximum number of elements that can be present in the seventh period can be determined as follows:

The maximum number of electrons that can be accommodated in the seventh energy level is 2n², where n is the principal quantum number of the energy level. For the seventh energy level, n = 7, so the maximum number of electrons that can be accommodated in the seventh energy level is 2 × 7² = 98.

However, in reality, the seventh period of the periodic table can only accommodate a maximum of 32 elements. This is due to the fact that the seventh energy level is farther away from the nucleus and the electrons in this energy level experience a weaker attraction to the nucleus. As a result, the electrons in the seventh energy level are more easily shielded by the electrons in the lower energy levels, making it difficult for additional electrons to be added to the seventh energy level.

Therefore, the correct answer is option A, 32, which represents the maximum number of elements that can be accommodated in the seventh period of the modern periodic table.
