Add −4 and −1 on both sides, we get

⇒ − x < −2
Multiply both sides by −1, we get
x > 2
Also,|4 − x| + 1 < 3
⇒ −(4 − x) + 1 < 3
⇒ − 4 + x + 1 < 3
Add 4 and −1 on both sides, we get
− 4 + x + 1 + 4 − 1 < 3 + 4 − 1
⇒ x < 6
