Which of the following organism reproduces by multiple fission? a) eug...
Multiple fission is the process of asexual reproduction which takes place in lower organisms such as protozoa (Plasmodium, malarial parasite), algae (Chlamydomonous), It is the process where nuclei of the parent cell divides several times to produce several nuclei enclosed within a cyst like structure. They remain in this cyst like structure till favorable conditions arrive. After arrival of favorable conditions, the cyst breaks to release large number of off-springs.

Multiple Fission in Organisms

Introduction:
Multiple fission is a method of asexual reproduction observed in certain organisms. It involves the division of the parent cell into multiple daughter cells simultaneously. These daughter cells are genetically identical to each other and to the parent cell. Multiple fission is commonly observed in certain protozoans and some bacteria.

Organisms Reproducing by Multiple Fission:

1. Euglena:
- Euglena is a unicellular, flagellated organism belonging to the group of protists.
- It reproduces primarily by binary fission, where the parent cell divides into two daughter cells.
- Multiple fission is not a typical mode of reproduction in Euglena. However, under unfavorable conditions like nutrient scarcity, it can undergo a process called encystment.
- During encystment, the Euglena forms a protective cyst around itself and undergoes multiple fission to produce several daughter cells.
- These daughter cells remain dormant until conditions become favorable again, at which point they can emerge from the cyst and resume their normal activities.

2. Paramecium:
- Paramecium is a unicellular ciliate protozoan commonly found in freshwater environments.
- It reproduces primarily by binary fission, where the parent cell divides into two daughter cells.
- However, Paramecium can also undergo a process called multiple fission under unfavorable conditions.
- During multiple fission, the Paramecium undergoes multiple rounds of nuclear division followed by cytoplasmic division, resulting in the formation of several daughter cells simultaneously.

3. Trypanosoma:
- Trypanosoma is a genus of parasitic protozoans that cause diseases like African sleeping sickness and Chagas disease.
- Multiple fission is not a typical mode of reproduction in Trypanosoma.
- Trypanosoma primarily reproduces by binary fission, where the parent cell divides into two daughter cells.

4. Plasmodium:
- Plasmodium is a genus of parasitic protozoans that is responsible for causing malaria.
- Plasmodium exhibits a complex life cycle involving multiple hosts, but multiple fission is not a significant part of its reproductive strategy.
- Plasmodium primarily reproduces through sexual reproduction in the mosquito vector and asexual reproduction in the human host.

Conclusion:
Among the given options, Paramecium is the organism that reproduces by multiple fission. Euglena can undergo multiple fission under specific conditions, but it is not a primary mode of reproduction for this organism. Trypanosoma and Plasmodium primarily reproduce through binary fission and have complex life cycles involving other modes of reproduction.
