Two object A and Ben are thrown upward simultaneously same speed . The mass of A is greater than mass of B .Suppose the air exerts a constant and equal force of resistance on the two bodies (a) the two bodies will reach the same height (b) A will go higher than B (c) B will go higher than A (d) None?
Verified Answer
Two object A and Ben are thrown upward simultaneously same speed . The...
The body codenamed “A” will get higher.
Because the mass of A is higher and the forces of resistance are said to be equal…

Without resistance forces, the maximum height would be equal, but, with resistance you have a force pointing downwards and F = m * a … so, for an equal resistance force, if the mass is higher the acceleration is lower, if the mass is lower, the acceleration is higher. The body B with a higher downwards acceleration gets stopped sooner and can’t get as high as body A.

Imagine throwing up a feather (low mass, high resistence) and a stone (higher mass, less resistance). Or, better, imagine a ping-pong ball and a golf ball or a squash ball. The squash ball gets higher than the ping-pong ball, right? And the resistance is supposed to be equal, since the shapes, size and initial speed are equal.
