We know that if any driving force is absent then bulkier group occupy is equatorial position so bu occupy equatorial position now ..And 1 Me group is on 3rd posn w.r.t. bu and is trans w.r.t bu so as in 1,3 positiion in trans will be axial and equatorial now as bu have occupied equatorial so now (me) will be on axial position ...Proceer to next me it is on 4th position and is cis w.r.t to bu and in 1 and 4 position in cis isomer the position will be axial and equatorial again as bu has already occupied equatorial position so now me will occupy axial...In the following ,option c mathces the explanation as above..so it is the correct ans

Option "b" and "d" are first of all discarded since both of these structures contain two methyl groups on the same side i.e above the plane.now if see at option "a" then we get that the methyl group at 1st position and tert- butyl at 4th position are at opposite side, which is wrong. hence we are left with the option "c" which is the correct answer.
