Explanation of Number Series Coding and Decoding and Odd Man Out

  • Number Series: A sequence of numbers in which each number is obtained by adding or subtracting a fixed number from the preceding number is called a number series. The given series is 10, 100, 200, 310, 420, __

  • Coding and Decoding: Coding and decoding is a method of encrypting or decrypting a message to keep it secure. In this question, we need to find the pattern used to obtain the missing number in the given series.

  • Odd Man Out: Odd Man Out is a term used in aptitude tests to refer to a number or word that does not fit in with the rest of the series or group. In this question, we need to find the number that does not follow the pattern of the given series.

Solution

  • The pattern used in the given series is as follows:

    1. First number is 10, which is 1^2 + 3

    2. Second number is 100, which is 2^2 x 10

    3. Third number is 200, which is 3^2 x 10

    4. Fourth number is 310, which is 4^2 + 6 x 10

    5. Fifth number is 420, which is 5^2 + 7 x 10

    6. Therefore, the missing number in the series will be 6^2 + 8 x 10 = 550

  • The odd man out in the given series is 310 because it does not follow the pattern of the series. The other numbers are obtained by adding or multiplying a fixed number to the preceding number, but 310 is obtained by adding a fixed number and multiplying by a variable number.

we start adding from 90 and then add 10 more in each term....
10+90=100
100+100=200
200+110=310
310+120=430
430+130=560
