Two objects of different masses are dropped freely from a height near ...
Different velocities at any instant
When two objects of different masses are dropped freely from a height near the surface of the earth, they will have different velocities at any instant. This is because the velocity of a falling object is directly proportional to the square root of the distance it has fallen. The formula for calculating velocity is given by v = √(2gh), where v is the velocity, g is the acceleration due to gravity (which is constant near the surface of the earth), and h is the height from which the object is dropped. Since the objects are dropped from the same height, the only variable that affects the velocity is the mass of the object. Therefore, the object with a larger mass will have a smaller velocity compared to the object with a smaller mass.

Same accelerations
Although the objects have different velocities, they will have the same acceleration. This is because the acceleration due to gravity is the same for all objects near the surface of the earth. The acceleration due to gravity is approximately 9.8 m/s² and acts in the downward direction. This means that both objects will experience the same acceleration as they fall towards the ground, regardless of their mass. The acceleration due to gravity is constant and does not depend on the mass of the object.

Therefore, the correct options are (b) and (d). The objects will have different velocities at any instant but the same acceleration.
