Demonstrate an activity to show the effect of temperature on the state...
Water in its different physical states under different temperature is shown as follows:
Ice negative to 0o C - Liquid water 0oC - 100oC - Vapour 100oC - higher temperature
2. This can be studied by the following activity :
(a) Take out ice from freezer and check the temperature. It is near to 0 degrees.
(b) Now, start melting it and when all the ice turns to water, the temperature is again taken, it is found to be room temperature.
(c) After heating on burner for few seconds, we see water turns to vapour. The temperature is above 100 degrees.

Activity to Demonstrate the Effect of Temperature on the State of Ice
1. Materials Needed:
- Ice cubes
- Thermometer
- Two bowls
- Hot water
- Cold water
2. Procedure:
1. Place an ice cube in one bowl and measure its temperature using a thermometer.
2. Fill the other bowl with hot water and the ice cube bowl with cold water.
3. Observe the ice cube in the cold water and note any changes in its state.
4. Place the ice cube from the cold water into the hot water and observe any further changes.
3. Explanation:
- When the ice cube is placed in the cold water, it remains solid as the temperature is below its melting point.
- However, when the ice cube is transferred to the hot water, its temperature increases above its melting point, causing it to melt and change its state from solid to liquid.
4. Conclusion:
- This activity demonstrates how temperature affects the state of ice. At low temperatures, ice remains solid, but as the temperature increases, it melts into liquid water. This shows the importance of temperature in changing the state of matter.
