Letter Writing : A letter is a written form of communication that is addressed to a specific person or a specific organization. It is one of the easiest and non-expensive means of communication. The relationship between the writer and the receiver determines the way a letter is written. There are several ways of writing a letter, each having its own style. Letters are of two basic types.Formal letters: These letters include applications, letters to editors, official letters, letters to and from organizations, government departments etc. These letters have an objective or business-like style of writing.Informal letters: These letters include letters to parents, relatives, friends etc. These letters have an easy and conversational language.While writing formal letters, one should ensure that it is not too extensive. These letters are supposed to be short and to-the-point.
1. The date can be written as:March 1, 2010 or 1st March, 2010 or 1 March, 2010 .
2.The address must be complete and must have the pin code of the address to which it is being sent.
3. Never write ‘Your’s truly’, always write ‘Yours truly’.
Paragraph Writing :A paragraph is a short piece of writing that consists of a number of sentences written on one topic or one idea. These sentences are arranged in a systematic manner. A paragraph is a short composition complete in itself. A good paragraph should have the following features in itself.
1. Unity: A paragraph should deal with only one thought or idea. Readers should get an idea of the theme right at the beginning of the paragraph. 2. Connectivity: The sentences in a paragraph should be well-connected to the central idea. Each sentence should follow the previous sentence and should naturally be followed by the next one. 3. Emphasis: A paragraph may include a few ideas related to the central theme. However, all ideas cannot be equally important. Thus, the writer should give each idea as much importance as it deserves. 4. Conclusion: The last sentence should be impressive. It should be written in such a manner that it brings a proper sense of conclusion to your write-up.
E mail Writing : Emails can be formal or informal. An informal email is an informal piece of writing. Its style can be similar to speaking, so it's up to us how we begin and finish it, and whether we use paragraphs or not but formality is important in formal Email writing. Short sentences, exclamation marks, contractions, informal expressions, smileys, words in block capitals and the omission of the subject pronoun are common features of informal e-mail writing.
Diary Entry : A diary entry is a very personal kind of writing where the writer writes about his/her feelings and records significant events of the day.There is no set rule, but usually, a diary is written either at the end of the day, or the beginning of one. Writing a diary during sunrise will help you plan your day out and what you expect to do throughout your day.Diary Writing Format : • Date/day
• Salutation ‘Dear Diary’
• Heading of the entry
• Contents of the diary entry
• Signature
