Work is not said to be done when an object moves at 90 degree to the direction of the force. Because work done = F.x Cosθ = F.x Cos90 = 0 (Since Cos90 degree is zero). Hence when force and displacement angle are perpendicular to each other no work is said to be done.

Work and energy. If a force is applied but the object doesn't move, no work is done; if a force is applied and the object moves a distance d in a direction other than the direction of the force, less work is done than if the object moves a distance d in the direction of the applied force.
