चारों ओर शांति छाई हुई थी, जब एक छोटे से गांव में एक बुजुर्ग आदमी रहता था। वह आदमी एक बहुत ही सम्पन्न और शांतिपूर्ण जीवन बिताता था। उसके पास बहुत समय हो गया था, लेकिन उसके आँखों में चमक और उसके चेहरे पर खुशी की किरणें थीं। लोग उसे आदर्श मनुष्य मानते थे और उसकी बातों का अद्भुत प्रभाव था।
एक दिन, गांव के एक युवक ने उस सबंधी महान आदमी से पूछा कि उनके जीवन का रहस्य क्या है और वह इतनी खुश कैसे रहते हैं। बुजुर्ग ने मुस्कराते हुए कहा, "मेरे बेटा, इसका राज है 'जल जगता है तो जीवन जगता है'।"
