The Pass Book showed an overdraft of Rs. 4,000, but the cash book made...
Solution:

Given: Overdraft as per Pass Book = Rs. 4,000

Cheques issued but not presented for payment:

- Cheque of Rs. 400
- Cheque of Rs. 300
- Cheque of Rs. 350

Cheque deposited but not cleared:

- Cheque of Rs. 1,200

To find: Balance as per cash book

To solve this question, we need to adjust the Pass Book balance with the given information.

Adjustment for cheques issued but not presented for payment:

The cheques which were issued but not presented for payment will reduce the bank balance. Therefore, we need to deduct the total amount of such cheques from the Pass Book balance to get the adjusted balance.

Total amount of cheques not presented = Rs. (400+300+350) = Rs. 1,050

Adjusted balance = Overdraft as per Pass Book - Total amount of cheques not presented

= Rs. 4,000 - Rs. 1,050

= Rs. 2,950

Adjustment for cheque deposited but not cleared:

The cheque which was deposited but not cleared will increase the bank balance. Therefore, we need to add the amount of this cheque to the adjusted balance to get the final balance as per Cash Book.

Amount of cheque deposited but not cleared = Rs. 1,200

Balance as per Cash Book = Adjusted balance + Amount of cheque deposited but not cleared

= Rs. 2,950 + Rs. 1,200

= Rs. 4,150

Therefore, the correct option is (d) Rs. 3,850.
