Why the temples destroyed ?
Temples in India were destroyed basically because there were hindu temples.

All the temples were destroyed by Mogul rulers who invaded the country multiple times. Hindus were forced to adapt to Muslim religion and when that did not happen even by torture and force , they destroyed their key worship places. That must have been a very serious blow to people at that time since every historian knows that it took centuries and 2 generations to build temples carved out of rock .

When you cannot break peoples faith then break their place , every element which constitutes their faith. But never did they know that Hinduism is not just about temples and Rituals, they could not take people faith away from their heart.

Why the temples destroyed ?
Introduction:

The destruction of temples has been a recurring phenomenon throughout history. Temples hold significant cultural, religious, and historical value for communities, making their destruction a deeply distressing event. There are several reasons why temples have been destroyed, ranging from religious conflicts to political motivations.

Religious conflicts:

One of the primary reasons behind the destruction of temples is religious conflicts. Throughout history, different religious groups have clashed, and their places of worship have often become targets. These conflicts may arise due to differences in religious beliefs, practices, or rivalries between sects. Temples have been destroyed during periods of religious intolerance, when one group seeks to suppress or eliminate another's religious influence.

Political motivations:

Political motivations have also played a significant role in the destruction of temples. Rulers or conquerors often targeted temples to weaken the influence of a particular religion or to assert their authority. Temples, being centers of power and influence, were seen as symbols of opposition or dissent that needed to be eliminated. Additionally, some rulers may have destroyed temples to appropriate their wealth or resources.

Iconoclasm:

Iconoclasm refers to the deliberate destruction or removal of religious icons, including statues, paintings, or other representations. Iconoclastic movements have occurred throughout history, driven by various ideologies. Some believe that these acts of destruction were intended to purify religious practices, considering the veneration of idols as idolatry. Iconoclasts argue that the focus should be on spiritual devotion rather than physical representations.

Conquest and invasions:

Conquest and invasions have often resulted in the destruction of temples. When foreign powers invaded a region, they sought to assert their dominance and often targeted temples as symbols of local culture and identity. Destroying temples served to weaken the morale of the local population and impose the conquerors' religious or cultural beliefs.

Conclusion:

The destruction of temples has been driven by religious conflicts, political motivations, iconoclasm, and conquests throughout history. These acts have resulted in the loss of cultural heritage, religious symbols, and historical artifacts. Recognizing the significance of temples as repositories of cultural identity and respecting religious diversity is crucial for preserving our shared human history.
