Why osmosis does not occur in dead cells?
Most Upvoted Answer
Why osmosis does not occur in dead cells?
Osmosis does not occur in dead cells because we know that after the die of the cells the its main component plasma membrane is also die and loses its permeability and so there is no osmosiss in a dead cell.

Why osmosis does not occur in dead cells?
Introduction:
Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration through a partially permeable membrane. It is an important process that occurs in living cells to maintain their water balance. However, osmosis does not occur in dead cells.

Reasons why osmosis does not occur in dead cells:

1. Lack of cell membrane:
Dead cells do not have a cell membrane, which is necessary for osmosis to occur. The cell membrane is a selectively permeable membrane that allows water molecules to pass through it. Without a cell membrane, there is no barrier to prevent the movement of water molecules, and therefore, osmosis cannot occur.

2. Loss of turgor pressure:
In living cells, osmosis maintains the turgor pressure, which is the pressure exerted by the cell contents against the cell wall. When water moves into the cell, the cell becomes turgid, and the turgor pressure increases. However, in dead cells, there is no water movement, and the turgor pressure decreases, leading to the collapse of the cell.

3. No energy source:
Osmosis requires energy to occur, and living cells have an energy source to facilitate the movement of water molecules. However, in dead cells, there is no energy source to drive the movement of water molecules.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, osmosis does not occur in dead cells due to the lack of cell membrane, loss of turgor pressure, and no energy source. Osmosis is an essential process that occurs in living cells to maintain their water balance and ensure their survival.
