  • a)
    4, 6
  • b)
    5, 5

56 g of nitrogen and 96 g of oxygen are mixed isothermally and at a to...
Option d is correct..because
mol.mass of N2=28
so, 56g of N2=56÷28= 2moles
mol.mass of O2=32
so, 96g of O2=96÷32= 3moles
total pressure (p)=10atm
So we know
. mole fraction (X)=partial pressure (Pi)÷total pressure(P)
also , mole fraction is the no.of moles of that component divided by total no.of moles of solute and solvent
.. 2+3=5moles
Xo2=Po2÷P, Po2=Xo2×P =3÷5×10=6
Pn2=Xn2×P =2÷5×10=4

56 g of nitrogen and 96 g of oxygen are mixed isothermally and at a to...

Given data:
- Mass of nitrogen (N₂) = 56 g
- Mass of oxygen (O₂) = 96 g
- Total pressure = 10 atm

Calculating moles of N₂ and O₂:
- Moles of N₂ = 56 g / 28 g/mol = 2 mol
- Moles of O₂ = 96 g / 32 g/mol = 3 mol

Calculating partial pressures:
- Partial pressure of N₂ = (2 mol / 5 mol) * 10 atm = 4 atm
- Partial pressure of O₂ = (3 mol / 5 mol) * 10 atm = 6 atm

Therefore, the partial pressures of nitrogen and oxygen are 4 atm and 6 atm respectively. Hence, the correct answer is option 'C' (2 atm for nitrogen and 8 atm for oxygen).
