Noble gases are inert and do not form compounds like other elements because of their:
  • a)
    Low ionization energy
  • b)
    High electron affinities
  • c)
    Close shell electronic configuration
  • d)
    High density
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
Noble gases are inert and do not form compounds like other elements be...
Helium has two electrons in its outer shell and the rest have eight electrons. Because of their full outer shells, they are very inert and stable. This means they don't tend to react with other elements to form compounds. They are gases under standard conditions.

Low IE and high EA means it's more reactive. Not stable .
where as octet gives them stability which is contrary to a,b.

Noble gases are inert and do not form compounds like other elements be...
For Nobel gases, they already have their outermost shells filled completely so they need not donate or accept any electrons. For example: Argon has atomic no 18 ,i.e E.C = 2,8,8. They are already stable. So, they don't need to form ions
