which will exert more pressure:100 kg mass on 10m sq or 50 kg mass on 4 m sq? (g=10m/s²)
Most Upvoted Answer
which will exert more pressure:100 kg mass on 10m sq or 50 kg mass on ...
PRESSURE = Mass/unit area

i) pressure =100/10
=} 10kg/m^2

ii) pressure = 50/4
=} 12.5kg/m^2

Hence, Option (ii) exert more pressure.

That's all☺

Pressure exerted by a mass

When a mass is placed on a surface, it exerts pressure on that surface. Pressure is defined as the force acting per unit area. It is given by the formula:

Pressure = Force / Area

Where,
Force is the weight of the object, which is the product of its mass and the acceleration due to gravity (g).
Area is the surface area on which the force is exerted.

Calculating the pressure

We are given two masses and their respective surface areas. Let's calculate the pressure exerted by each mass.

For the first case, a mass of 100 kg is placed on a surface area of 10 m².

Force = mass * acceleration due to gravity
= 100 kg * 10 m/s²
= 1000 N

Pressure = Force / Area
= 1000 N / 10 m²
= 100 N/m²

For the second case, a mass of 50 kg is placed on a surface area of 4 m².

Force = mass * acceleration due to gravity
= 50 kg * 10 m/s²
= 500 N

Pressure = Force / Area
= 500 N / 4 m²
= 125 N/m²

Comparison of pressures

The pressure exerted by the 100 kg mass on a 10 m² surface is 100 N/m².
The pressure exerted by the 50 kg mass on a 4 m² surface is 125 N/m².

Conclusion

Therefore, the 50 kg mass on a 4 m² surface exerts more pressure compared to the 100 kg mass on a 10 m² surface.
