The ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountancy of India) regulates the course of Chartered Accountancy in India. The institute is responsible for maintaining the standard of the course. The first level of the exam at the entry level is CA-CPT (Chartered Accountant - Common Proficiency Test). This exam is conducted twice in a year in June and December by the ICAI.
Students are eligible to get themselves registered with the ICAI for the CA-CPT exam after passing 10th or 12th. The exam is conducted on the national level. It is an undergraduate level exam.
CA CPT exam will NOT be conducted after June 2019 session. CA CPT 2019 June session will be the last session of CPT exam. It has been decided in lieu of the introduction of new CA entry level exam, i.e. CA Foundation 2018, under revised scheme. After June 2019, CA Foundation will become the only one CA entry-level qualification examination. Until this period, both CA CPT and CA Foundation 2018 examinations will be conducted by ICAI.

The CA CPT application form 2018 for December session is opened online by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) from October 4, 2018, onwards. Candidates will be able to fill CA CPT 2018 application forms till October 25, 2018 (without late fee) and till November 1, 2018 (with a late fee of INR 600/-). The process for new users to register for CA CPT 2018 December session exam will close in the first week of November 2018. Candidates will be required to pay the application of INR 1000/- for filling CA CPT application form 2018 for candidates choosing centres in India, INR 1,700/- for candidates choosing CA CPT 2018 exam centre in Nepal and US$ 300/- for candidates choosing an overseas exam centre from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat or Doha. Candidates must have passed Class 12 and must have registered for Common Proficiency Course with BOS on or before June 30, 2017, to become eligible for CA CPT 2018 December exam.
ICAI will also open two CA CPT application correction windows, one for free of cost and another payable. The first window will be opened in the second week of November 2018, and the second window will be opened in the last week of November 2018, tentatively. The CA CPT application correction window-I will remain open for one week. Candidates will be liable to pay some fee during second correction window of CA CPT application form 2018. During the opening of correction windows, candidates can make corrections in the choice of exam centre, medium of language, etc. in the application form of CA CPT 2018.

Aspirants of CA CPT December 2018 exam will be able to fill the CA CPT 2018 application form through their dashboards made available after CA CPT exam registration. Only those candidates who registered for CA CPT course on or before June 30, 2017, will be eligible to appear for CA CPT December 2018 exam. Eligible candidates can follow the procedure mentioned below to fill the application form of CA CPT 2018 for December session exam -
For exam centers in India only - INR 1,000
For exam centers in Kathmandu (Nepal) - INR 1,700
For exam centers in Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai and Muscat - US$ 300
After making the payment of application fee, candidates could download their application in PDF format by clicking 'Download PDF'.
Step 5: Preview the filled in CA CPT application form and Click on ‘Submit’.
Step 6: Download and take a print-out of duly filled application form of CA CPT 2018 for future reference.
If your photograph and signature are appearing on the pdf/printout of the application form of CA CPT 2018 taken in Step 6 (above), then you will not have to take any further step.
If in case, photograph and signature are NOT appearing on CA Application Form 2018 (taken at step 6), candidates will have to take a print-out of the application form on A4 size sheet and paste their recent passport size photograph on the form and sign in the designated space provided in the application form and send the application to the official address of ICAI given below. Candidates are advised to send the application form of CA CPT 2018 only through Speed Post or Registered Post at least 3-4 days before the last date of submission. ICAI provides two sessions for application correction- Application correction window- I without fee and Application correction window-II with fee.
CA CPT 2018 application form correction window I will be put open in the second week of November 2018 tentatively. Candidates will be able to edit/modify details like test medium and Exam centre in their CA CPT application forms. Second correction window (with fee) will be provided in the last week of November 2018.
During second correction window, candidates will be required to remit application correction fee as per the changes made in their forms. For example, in case, candidates change their exam centre from India to Overseas, then they will need to remit an additional fee of INR 1000/-, etc.
Candidates can go through following stepwise guide to correct any errors that they made in their application forms of CA CPT 2018 -
Step 1: To make any changes in the CA CPT Application form, a link will be available when the CA CPT application form correction windows are opened by ICAI.
Step 2: Go to 'Login/Register' tab to login to your account and enter your Login ID and Password.
Step 3: Verify the information provided in the application form. If there are no errors in the data, click on 'No change required', otherwise click on 'Changes Required'.
Step 4: Make changes (if required). Candidates will be permitted to make changes to only the following data:
Medium of Examination- Candidates may change the medium of examination they opted for, i.e. change it from Hindi to English or vice-versa.
Centre of Examination- Candidates will be allowed to change the city they opted for appearing in CA CPT 2018 exam. However, they will not be permitted to change their centre from one zone to another, within the same city.
Change of Group- Candidates will also be able to change their group preference from single group to both first and second groups or from both groups to a single group.
Step 5: Make payment of correction fee (Only applicable in case of CA CPT application correction window-II). There is no requirement of payment of any correction fee in first application correction window, whereas during second correction window candidates will be required to make payment of the requisite correct fee, in case they make any changes in their CA CPT 2018 application forms.
Candidates who register and apply for CA CPT December 2018 examination will be issued the admit card of CA CPT 2018 online. The admit card of CA CPT 2018 is most probably released in the first week of December 2018. Candidates will be able to obtain their CA CPT admit card 2018 by logging in their accounts through their registered id and password, through the link given above. CA CPT 2018 admit card will mention details about the candidate including name, roll number, photograph and signature, exam centre, etc. It will also contain other exam related important instructions. Candidates will be required to take a printout of CA CPT admit card 2018 and carry it with them to their allotted exam centre.

Who is a Chartered Accountant

A few jobs available for Charted Accountants are Financial Manager, Finance Director, Financial Controller, Chief Accountant, Cost Controller, Marketing Manager, Chief Internal Auditor, Managing Director etc.
With the growing trend of back-office operations, many multinational organizations having their back offices in India employ professional accountants.
Private Practice
A qualified professional can set up his/her own private practice as a practicing chartered accountant. One can play the role of a consultant for any organization relating to the functions of accounting, taxation, auditing, cost management etc as well.
All companies registered under the companies act have to appoint a practicing chartered accountant as their statutory auditor who would verify their accounts and certify them before being submitted to the registrar.
Statutory Opportunities
The following functions can only be performed by chartered accountants by law:.
Under Sec 44 of the Income -Tax law every assessee with gross receipts of Rs. 10 lakhs in the case of professionals and Rs. 40 Lakhs in the case of business concerns is compulsorily required to maintain accounts and get them audited by a Chartered Accountant (CA).
The Tax department employs the services of Chartered Accountants (CA) for auditing complicated cases, having large revenue potential.
The Reserve Bank of India employs Chartered Accountants (CA) for conducting Statutory Audit of Banks every year. Also, Comptroller and auditor general of India take their services for the same purpose.
Special Government Services
Chartered Accountancy is recognized as an equivalent of the postgraduate qualification in commerce by a number of universities and government bodies. Therefore, Chartered Accountants would be eligible for all the government services where a postgraduate qualification in commerce is necessary.
Accounting [Bookkeeping]
This includes writing up of accounts and the preparation of financial statements ranging from simple Bookkeeping to making complex financial analysis.
Audit [review, check, inspection, examination, appraisal etc.]
Auditing refers to ensuring that the statements which represent the accounts of organizations present a true and fair view of the state of affairs and are based on appropriate accounting principles.
Taxation
Everyone needs the services of a professional accountant for receiving and understanding general advice on taxes as the tax laws are varied and complicated for a layman to understand. Tax assessment is very closely linked with financial accounts. Therefore a professional accountant performs the functions of preparing returns for tax purposes, representing assessee's before Income-Tax authorities.
Cost Accounting
Ascertaining the cost of production/processes at different levels of operations in the manufacture of a product or rendering a service. Providing costing information for the guidance of management, introducing cost control methods and assisting managements in establishing appropriate sale prices.
Shareholders representative - Company Directors
Working as a representative of the shareholders i.e. in the position of a director in the "Board of Directors" of the company. The professionals who hold senior positions in industry and commerce are best suited to this task. On account of their professional knowledge in one of the core functions i.e. accounting, they are capable of giving appropriate advices.
Special Company Work
Matters such as the formation of companies (registration work), designing the financial structure, liquidation etc the services of a professional accountant would be needed.
Secretarial Work
A secretary in addition to his regular secretarial work is an important link in the management chain. Small companies which may not need or are unable to afford the services of a full-time secretary take the help of professional accountants for these. The growth of the company as a form of business organization creates a large scope in this area.
Almost every kind of organization whose affairs are controlled by boards, councils and other corporate structures be it a co-operative, trust, society, association, federation, statutory authority, commission, board or the like finds it useful to utilize the services of the professional accountant for secretarial work.
Trustees - Executors
Professional accountants often are appointed as executors under a will or trust in order to carry on the administration of the estate or settlements. In such cases, they work in tandem with legal practitioners. Solicitors or lawyers carrying out works of this kind usually take the help of professional accountants.
Investigation - Share Valuation Work
Investigation is carried out to ascertain the financial position of business in connection with matters such as a new issue of share capital, the purchase or sale or financing of a business, reconstruction and amalgamations. Valuation of shares of public and private companies at the time of amalgamation or re-organization and for the purpose of takeover bids and other acquisitions is being done by professional accountants.
Teaching/Training
Post-graduate qualifications in commerce by many universities is recognized at par with this which enable Charted Accountants to take up a post as a lecturer in respective subjects where post graduation qualification is needed to be so appointed in the post.
Management Accounting and consultancy
Professional accountants perform functions relating to management which have a direct accounting implication like formulation of policies, day to day control, performance evaluation, etc. They can assist business organizations in making the best use of the available resources in achieving their goals effectively.

Other miscellaneous services and emerging new areas of work like (a) Work related to e - commerce in assessing the adequacy of the system (b) Risk management (c) Services as an arbitrator for the settling of disputes (d) Work connected with insolvency (e) measuring intellectual capital (f) Measurement of performance and system quality (g) Continuous assurance etc.

A Professional accountant is well equipped with knowledge to provide expert level services with regard to Public Issue, Listing and Securities Management, Takeover Code, Insider Trading, Mergers, Acquisitions, and Joint Ventures Securities Compliance and Certification Services, Finance and Accounting Services, Taxation Services, International Trade and WTD Services.
ICAI will conduct CA CPT 2018 in as many as 201 exam centres across 196 test cities in India and five abroad. Candidates can select the exam centre of their choice for appearing in CA CPT 2018, while filling their CA CPT applications. Candidates will also be able to change their choice of exam centre for CA CPT 2018 December examination when the application correction window becomes available.
