Website
Just as a book has many pages; a Website is a collection of web pages related to the same topic. A Web page can be compared to a page in a book and is the basic unit of every Web site or document. A Web page can be an article, an ordering page, or a single paragraph, and it is usually a combination of text and graphics. You might know about some Websites such as www.discovery.com, www.yahoo.com, etc. Each Website has a Web address on the Internet. This is also called the URL or Uniform Resource Locator. Examples of web addresses are www.hotmail.com and www.cricket.org. The first page of any website is called its Homepage. Each Web site is owned and updated by an individual, company or organization. The Web is a dynamically moving and changing entity and many Web sites change on a daily or even hourly basis.

Hardware and Software Requirement for the Internet  

One requires the following equipments to connect to the Internet:

• A multimedia computer system,
• A telephone line and
• A modem

The basic requirement to use the Internet is that you must have a computer system with some additional feature? like speakers, headphone, mike, etc. which make it a multimedia computer system. The same telephone line which you use to make calls to your relatives and friends can be used to connect to the Internet. A modem is an instrument that is attached between a computer and a telephone. It allows you to connect and communicate with other computers through the telephone line.

Some additional hardware is needed if you wish to use the Net for a specific purpose. For example, Some need a video adapter card to enjoy animations and video on the Net, a sound card to hear sounds and gaming equipment like joystick to play some games on the Net

Internet Connection
Internet connections are given by Internet Service Providers (ISP's). These companies allow you to use the Internet at appropriate charges. An ISP gives us Account name and Password that we can use to connect to the Internet.

In addition to the hardware, there are two sets of software needed which are essential for the Internet. The first is the basic Internet Access software which is system software necessary for setting up and controlling the connection   from   the computer's operating system to the Internet. This set of software must be installed and running before using the second set of software, i.e., Internet Application Software, such as Web browsers or Outlook express. A Web browser is a software program that enables you to access and navigate the Internet by viewing Web pages on your computer. Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer (IE) are the two browsers most commonly used for viewing the Internet. A browser window has two main parts: a central area where information is displayed and a panel with various buttons and menus.
