NEET UG Counselling 2023 - Overview

Through the NEET UG Counselling 2023 process, 15% of the total seats in all medical and dental colleges across India are allotted to candidates based on their scores in the NEET UG Examination. The Counselling process is conducted in two rounds, and if seats still remain vacant after the second round, a mop-up round is conducted. What is Eligibility Criteria for NEET Counselling 2023?

  • Candidates qualifying for NEET 2023 are eligible to apply for Counselling.
  • Those applicants who score at least 50th percentile (40th percentile for SC/ ST/ OBC and 45th percentile for general-physically handicapped) or above in NEET exam will be considered qualified. 
  • The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare releases a list of qualified candidates under All India Quota (excluding Jammu and Kashmir) who are eligible to participate in the 15% All India Quota Counselling. 
  • Candidates have to register themselves on the MCC website in order to be eligible for the Counselling process.

What is Eligibility Criteria for Central University?

  • Delhi University (LHMC, UCMC, MAMC): 85 percent of institutional quota seats will be reserved for those students, who have completed their 11th and 12th grades in Delhi. Meanwhile, 15 percent of seats will be reserved for the All-India Quota (AIQ) in NEET Counselling 2023.
  • Aligarh Muslim University (AMU): 50% of aspirants, who have studied in their schools for the last three years, will be able to get into this university. Moreover, the rest 50% of students will be NEET qualified candidates.
  • BHU: The NEET Counselling 2023 qualified students will also be eligible to take part in the process of NEET Counselling at BHU MBBS for the year 2023.
  • Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi: Three seats of BDS will be reserved through the internal quota of Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. On the other hand, 47 seats will be occupied for all. The students of Jamia University will also be eligible to apply for the internal quota.

NEET 2023 Reservation Criteria

As per the reservation criteria, seats will be reserved for GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD candidates. The percentage of seats reserved for different categories is as follows

What is the NEET 2023 Counselling Process?

MCC will hold four rounds of NEET-UG 2023 Counselling for the All India Quota (AIQ), with a mop-up round and a stray vacancy round to be conducted after Round 2 is completed. The procedure involves filling any leftover seats through the mop-up round and the stray vacancy round. Steps to be taken include:

  • Step 1: Undertake the MCC NEET registration, including payment.
  • Step 2: Select and confirm choices for the NEET 2023 Counselling. 
  • Step 3: Results of the first round of seat allocation will be published. 
  • Step 4: Report to the designated Medical/Dental College to secure the seat (option to leave without penalty). 
  • Step 5: Vacant seats after the first round will be advertised. 
  • Step 6: Re-register for the second round of the NEET Counselling (not applicable for already registered candidates) and submit fresh choices. 
  • Step 7: Seat allocation for the second round (exit without loss of security deposit is possible). 
  • Step 8: Report to the medical/dental college/institution in preparation for the second round (candidates who have joined the allotted seat cannot leave it).

Step 1: NEET Counselling Registration

To register for NEET Counselling, individuals must go to mcc.nic.in. They must input their NEET roll number, registration number, name, mother's name and date of birth. Subsequently, they can pay the Counselling fee and security deposit via a credit or debit card.

Step 2: Filling in Choices for NEET 2023 Counselling

Applicants can create a dummy college list and enter their desired schools. They can use the NEET college predictor to assess their chances of being accepted based on previous admission data. During the 2023 NEET Counselling process, they will be able to select from the options they have provided.

Step 3: NEET 2023 Seat Allotment

Once the seat allotment letters become available, it is essential for candidates to log in and download them. In the first round, they have the option of taking a free exit, while in the second round, they have the option of a forfeiture exit.

Step 4: Reporting to the Allotted College

After being assigned a seat, applicants must go to their designated college to complete the admission procedures. It is not necessary to attend during the initial round, but if someone wants to accept the seat or upgrade it, they must report in the second round unless they are choosing to give up their deposit by opting out. Upon arriving at the college, the individual must show the original copies of the required documents.

What are Documents Required for NEET Counselling 2023?

The following documents will be required during the NEET Counselling. Candidates must carry original documents along with attested photocopies to the Counselling process:

NEET Counselling 2023 For 15% All India Quota

  • The DGHS of the Government of India is responsible for conducting the Counselling for the 15% All India Quota Seats. 
  • Online Counselling will be conducted by all deemed, central, and state universities as well as ESIC and AFMC, BHU & AMU. 
  • Candidates are required to apply for 15% All India Quota seats based on the instructions of the DGHS, with any leftover seats being filled in the mop-up round. 
  • Participants in the All India Counselling are also allowed to join the State Counselling process of their respective states.

NEET Counselling 2023 for 85% State Quota Seats

  • Different state authorities will be responsible for carrying out the NEET Counselling 2023 process at the state level. 
  • This differs between states and the process and dates may vary. 
  • In the 85% state quota, students will be able to apply for all the seats, including the private colleges. 
  • Applicants must register on the websites of their respective state Counselling authority. 
  • The selection process is based on the ranks in the state merit list released for each state. 
  • For colleges in J&K, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, all the seats are only open for residents of these states.

What is a Free Exit and What is the Exit with Forfeiture?

Free Exit (Only for Round 1): Candidates assigned a seat in the initial round who do not show up to the college they were assigned to will not be penalized and will still be eligible for future rounds. Their security deposit will not be forfeited.

If a candidate is offered a seat in the second round but does not plan on taking it, they have the option to forfeit their security deposit within the allotted time frame. Those who accept the allotted seat in the second round will not be allowed to give up their seat or participate in state Counselling.

When will the NEET Counselling 2023 begin? 

The exact dates for the NEET Counselling 2023 have not yet been released. However, it is expected to begin in the month of June 2023. 

What is the eligibility criteria for NEET Counselling 2023? 

Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology as compulsory subjects and must have secured a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in PCB.

Can I apply to AIIMS through the MCC Counselling of NEET 2023?

Yes, It is possible to opt for a preferred seat in AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, AMU and other medical colleges by submitting an application through NEET Counselling 2023.

Is the registration fee for MCC Counselling 2023 refundable?

The fee for NEET Counselling 2022 is non-refundable, with the exception of the security deposit which will be returned to those who do not take admission through the NEET UG 2022 Counselling process.

Is NEET mandatory for AYUSH admissions?
