- The narrator tells us that he parted ways with the comrade in Bologna, and that the young man left with plans to head to Milan and eventually walk over the pass into Switzerland (apparently the hills are alive with the sound of Hungarian communists).
- The narrator tells the kid about the Mantegna's in Milan, but the kid shyly lets him know that—seriously, people—Mantegna is not his bag.
- So the narrator tells him where to get good grub and where to find other comrades, but the kid says he's very eager to walk over the pass while the weather is good. Also, fall is totes his favorite season.
- The story ends with the narrator's statement, "The last I heard of him the Swiss had him in jail near Sion." Which is, you know, one way to end a story.
