Introduction

• Vani and Prasad live in a village named Mukhtapur. 
• Their house is always full of colourful threads because their family are weavers. They live in Pochampalli town in Telangana, where most families are also weavers. 
• The special cloth they weave is called Pochampalli. Weaving has been a tradition in their village for a long time, and Vani and Prasad's parents learned it from their elders. 
• Now, Vani and Prasad help their parents with weaving after school. Weaving is hard work and involves many steps before actually making the cloth.

From Thread to Cloth

• Dad brings bundles of thread from Pochampalli town. Mom washes these threads in hot water to clean them, and then everyone helps dye them in bright colours. 

• After drying, the threads are rolled into bundles and put onto looms to weave cloth. Silk threads are used for silk sarees, while cotton threads are used for cotton sarees, cloth, and sheets. 
• The loom has many needles, and their size and number depend on the design.

A Craft in Danger

• Weaving these special sarees requires a lot of skill and hard work that lasts for many days. However, despite all the effort, it's difficult to sell them at a good price because silk is getting more expensive. 
• Big shopkeepers buy these sarees for very little money and then sell them for much higher prices. Because of this, many weavers are giving up their craft and leaving their villages to work in cities. 
• We need to find a solution to this problem by helping them get fair prices for their work. Otherwise, this valuable tradition will disappear forever.
