Ques 1: Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow.
Set in the declining but still green Western Ghats in the South-West of Karnataka, Coorg is the heart of India's coffee country, coffee being the world's most heavily traded commodity after crude oil.

Coorg boasts a land area four times larger than Hong Kong and seven times the area of Singapore, most of it is under tree cover because unlike tea plants, the coffee bush requires shade. India is acknowledged as the producer of the finest mild coffees.
With their tropical climate, high altitude, abundant rainfall and fertile soil, Coorg and the neighboring Chick magalur districts in Karnataka have consistently produced and exported high quality coffee for over 150 years. The coffee output of these two districts accounts for 70 per cent of the total coffee produced in the country.
Coorg coffee is valued for its blue colour, clean beans and fine liquoring qualities and hence is in demand in the international markets. In March and April is the coffee blossom time in Coorg. When blossoms transform in to berries, the bushes are cropped. The cherry-red fruit is then pulped; the seeds separated, dried and sent for curing.

Ques 2: Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow.
Highly creative people aren't afraid to ask what may seem to be naive or silly questions. They ask questions like, "Why don't spiders get tangled up in their own webs?" and, "Why do dogs turn in circles before lying down?" Such questions may seem childlike, and in a way they are.
Children have not yet had their innate creative energies channelled into culturally acceptable directions and can give full rein to their curiosity- the absolute prerequisite for full creative functioning, in both children and adults.
Unlike children, creative people appear to have vast stores of patience to draw upon. Months, years, even decades cm be devoted to a single problem. The home that encourages inquisitiveness contributes to creative development. The teacher who stresses questions rather than answers and rewards curiosity rather than restricting is teaching a child to be creative.
To be extremely intelligent is not the same as to be gifted in creative work. The Quiz kids are often referred to as geniuses. They would undoubtedly score high in memory functions. But it is doubtful whether they are also fluent in producing ideas.
Contrary to popular myths that glorify youth, more creative achievements are likely to occur when people grow older. While memory may falter with age, creativity is ageless.
A. Answer the following questions.
(i) Who are 'highly creative people'?
(ii) What kind of home can contribute to creative development?

Ans: Dena Apartments' Welfare Association Delhi-IIOOSI 25th April, 20XX The Editor
The Herald Delhi-11002 Subject Problems of Traffic During Peak Hours Sir, Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the problems faced during the peak hours of traffic both in the morning and the evening not only by the residents of Dena apartments but by the other passers by.
This road is connected to more than ten small colonies and most people use this road. It has become so congested that school going children and old people find it difficult to cross the roads. Even though there are traffic signals on the crossing yet the traffic is beyond control. To combat this problem, the road can be widened as there is enough space on both sides of the road.
Two zones can be created for easy flow of traffic. I hope my views will receive due recognition in your newspaper for the common well-being. Yours faithfully Kritika Secretary Dena Apartments' Welfare Association Or Save Tigers from Extinction Our planet Earth is blessed with such a huge variety of animals and other species. But why should even any one of the species become extinct due to human selfishness and many times due to various myths and legends.
It is really a matter of great concern and demands immediate remedial steps to prevent the situation from getting worse. Some official figures show the falling number of tigers, which reveals the fact that the tigers will soon be on the extinction list. In 1972, tiger population fell by 1827, in 1979 by 3015, in 1984 by 4005, in 1989 by 4334, in 1993 by 3750, in 1997 by 3508, in 2004by 3500, in 2008 by 2200 and in 2012 by another 1400.
If we go a little deeper behind tiger poaching, we find that all parts of a tiger's body are sold at a high rate in foreign countries. Our failure to protect the tiger population from the shots of the poachers is mainly responsible for their dwindling number.' Some fashion crazy people lust for fashion items from tiger hides.
Tiger body parts are like gold for their aphrodisiac qualities. We should initiate to open more tiger reserves and animal parks. Rigorous steps need to be taken to keep a vigil on the poachers in these reserves and the culprits should be punished severely, who are doing such a heinous crime to set an example for the rest. We should do whatever we can to prevent this beautiful species from extinction. XYZ
