Dr. Kiran Bedi, the first woman IPS officer, was born in the year 1949 in the holy city of Amritsar. She completed her education from  Punjab University, Chandigarh and then her law from Delhi University. As the incharge of Tihar Jail, she brought many reforms for the criminals lodged in jails and started many development programmes. She also started two organizations for the underprivileged. She is the proud recipient of many awards like President Gallantry Award, Magasaysay Award. As a police officer she was known for her boldness.
