What are Directions?

• You have your front, which is the direction you're facing. 
• Then there's your back, which is behind you.
  
• Next, your right side is the side you see when you turn to your right, 
• And your left side is the side you see when you turn to your left.

Directions

Now, let's dive into the main directions:

• North: It is the top of a map. It's where the North Pole is. You can think of it as the direction where compass needles point.
• South: It is the opposite of North. It's where the South Pole is. You can think of it as the bottom of a map.

• East: It is the direction where the sun rises in the morning. You can remember it because "East" and "Early" both start with the letter "E".
• West: It is the opposite of East. It's where the sun sets in the evening. You can remember it because "West" and "Weird" both start with the letter "W".

A map is like a special picture that shows us where different places are. It's like a drawing of the world, or a country, or even just a city!

• In a map of India, for example, you'll see all the states and cities drawn out. 
• But it's not just any drawing; it's drawn in a special way. 
• The top of the map is North, the bottom is South, the right side is East, and the left side is West. 
• So, when you look at the map, you can easily figure out which way is which!

How to Locate a Place with the help of Directions

To locate a place with the help of directions, we use landmarks and follow specific instructions. Let's understand with an example:

Imagine Rohan wants to go to his friend Nitin's house to play. Nitin gives him directions from the school:

1. Start from School: First, Rohan needs to leave the school premises and start walking.

2. Milk Booth: Walk straight from the school. After some distance, Rohan will see a milk booth. It's a small shop where people buy milk.

3. Left Turn at Milk Booth: After spotting the milk booth, Rohan should take a left turn. This means he needs to change his direction towards the left side.

4. Big Tree: Keep walking straight after taking the left turn. Soon, Rohan will see a big tree standing at the corner of the street.

5. Right Turn at Big Tree: Upon reaching the big tree, Rohan should take a right turn. This means he needs to change his direction towards the right side.

6. Santom Hospital: Keep walking straight after turning right. Rohan will come across Santom Hospital on the right side of the street.

7. Right Turn at Hospital: When Rohan reaches Santom Hospital, he needs to take a right turn.

8. Temple: Continue walking straight after turning right. Eventually, Rohan will reach a temple located at the end of the street.

9. Right Turn at Temple: At the temple, Rohan should move towards his right side.

10. Bank: After a few steps from the temple, Rohan will see a bank on his right side. It's a building where people keep their money safe.

11. Left Turn at Bank: Upon seeing the bank, Rohan should take a left turn.

12. Post Office: Following the left turn, Rohan will arrive at the post office. It's a place where people send and receive letters and parcels.

13. Left Turn at Post Office: From the post office, Rohan needs to take another left turn.

14. Reach Nitin's House: Following the left turn, Rohan will finally reach Nitin's house!

By following these directions and using landmarks like the milk booth, big tree, hospital, temple, bank, and post office, Rohan can easily find his way to Nitin's house.
