How Many Are These?
Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Lila who lived on a farm with her parents. One day, while playing outside, she saw a basket full of chickens. She started to play with them.
After playing, she decided to count them, so that when she comes back in the evening, all should be there.
Now, can you tell me how many baskets of 10 chickens are there?
There are 2 baskets of 10 chickens each.
Lila returns in the evening and sees more chicken around the basket.
Can you now count and tell the total number of chickens present?
There are 2 baskets of 10 chickens each and 5 chickens are outside.
So in total there are 20 + 5 = 25 chickens.

- Let’s take 10 pencils.
- Now make a group of 10 pencils.
- We can make only 1 group. It represents 1 Ten. But there is no single pencil remaining. It indicates 0 ones.

- Count the number of birds given below
There are 10 birds.
- Now, if 2 birds fly away, then how many birds will be there?
There were 10 birds
2 birds flew away
So, the birds left will be 10 birds - 2 birds
= 8 birds
- Now, if 10 birds join the remaining 8 birds, what will be the total number of birds?
The total number of birds will be 10 + 8
= 18 birds

- Count the number of balloons in 1 bundle
There are 10 balloons
- If there are 10 balloons in 1 bundle, then how many balloons are there in 4 bundles?
1 bundle = 10 balloons
4 bundles = 10 + 10 + 10 + 10
So, 4 bundles = 40 balloons
- Can you calculate the total number of balloons given below?
3 bundles = 30 balloons
1 bundle = 6 balloons
Total balloons = 30 + 6
= 36 balloons
