Where to Look From Class 3 Notes Maths

Where to look from

Ramu and Shamu are playing together at the park.
They look at a car parked on the road. The view they see is from the side.
They decided to climb up a tree. They now see the same car but the car now looks different!
Why? It is because the views are different depending on where they are seen from.

Rangoli

  • Rangolis are made with colourful chalks or rice and give us  beautiful patterns.

  • Free play with shapes on a dot grid can help children understand shapes and symmetries.
  • We use rangoli patterns to find symmetry and reflection.
  • It can be done by joining the dotted lines on the dot grid to find symmetry and the reflection of different figures.
  • Some lines are straight on the dot grid while some are not.

Tit For Tat

We will look at an example to  understand the concept of symmetry and reflection.

  • Amina tells the painter to make her picture.
  • The painter only draws half of it and says to put a  mirror to see the full picture. The mirror will show the exact same half.
  • Amina as well only pays half the amount of what was asked by the painter and tells him to look at the note in front of a mirror, it will be exactly the same.

Why don't you try this for yourself?

  • Make half a picture of a square on a paper and put a mirror on the side to see the full image.
  • See yourself in the mirror. You see your own reflection on the mirror.

Mirror Halves

  • Mirror ( or reflection ) symmetry divides a figure or design into halves that are mirror images.
  • Objects are the same on both sides of a line ( usually in the middle).

Here we are given halves of what appears to be the letter M,  and a pyramid.

We are required to make the other mirror half.

  • One part of an object has to be a mirror image of the other part.
