A horrible flood hit Bihar this year. There took place a huge loss of property. Crops were destroyed and cattle swept away. Many houses caved in. Many organisations became active to render help to the flood victims. At first, children and women were brought to safe places. Still many things are going on to help the farmers. The Government is giving away seeds so that they may make up for the loss done. It is hoped that they will toil hard and yield more grains. Such flood as this has never afflicted Bihar.

The Himalaya is ours. It is the pride of the Indian nation. It is an inseparable part of our country. The Himalaya has expansion from Bhutan to Kashmir on the whole northern border. The Himalayan peaks are visible from some villages of Northern Bihar. Many rivers of India originate from the Himalaya. These rivers keep a great portion of India green. The Himalaya has gifted a lot of things to our country. India cannot survive without the Himalaya. So, we will have to protect the Himalaya at any cost. Many rivers originate from the Himalaya. The Himalaya is the northern boundary of India and it is like a defender.

The car being dear, its sale has decreased (=gone down) however prices of other cars are as usual. Nevertheless, the sale of cars has not decreased to such an extent as it seems. The government continues increasing the prices of petrol and diesel day by day. The only reason that can be cited is that the life-style of people is becoming higher; their income is increasing; per ca-pita income in the country is increasing. This indicates the progressive nature of the country.

The future of democracy in our country as anywhere else, lies in the hands of the youth. The youth have greater stake in the future of this country and they must work hard to make India one of the foremost democracies of the world. A new sense of dedication, towards the goals and policies that the country has before it, is required of your younger generation. It is of utmost importance that they understand and appreciate the functioning of Parliament – the great banyan tree under the balmy shad of which all democratic institutions flourish. In order to channelize their youthful energies into constructive, healthy and purposeful activities and to ensure that they imbibe the best of parliamentary ethos and culture to become useful citizens of tomorrow, it is imperative that they are attuned to democratic way of life and be made well aware of the processes of parliamentary functioning from an early age.

Police play a crucial role, in upholding and sustaining democratic processes, calling for adherence to strict neutrality and to uphold the rule of law. When uncertainties afflict the political system, as they are at present, the pressures on the police assume undue proportions. It is in such situations that the police leadership has to show its strong professional face. It would also call for extreme caution to avoid being arbitrary. Experience in various countries indicates that police, comprehending their indispensability to the State extend their behavior beyond boundaries that would be imposed on them in normal times. We witnessed such a thing happening during the days of Emergency and more recently in Punjab. Similar conduct came to notice in UP recently, particularly during the Uttarakhand agitations. Police cannot afford to wish away these as aberrations for these have persisted over a period of time and in different police forces. Once the police compromise ‘neutrality’, their ability to enforce law in an effective and accountable manner will be considerably blunted. This in turn will very seriously jeopardize pursuit of democracy in the country.

Often we see birds flying in the sky forming the shape of the letter ‘V’ in English so that they may fly easily while cutting through the air. If one of their companions is left behind or one of them gets hurt, two of the birds of the group return and bring back that bird with them. In this way, every creature of nature has a natural instinct to support each other. If one of the animals living together dies or is sent somewhere else, the other expresses its sadness even after being silent for several days, sometimes by forsaking food and sometimes by releasing forlorn sounds.

Today’s era is an era of stiff competition. Therefore, the progress and profitability of any business organization depends not on the contribution of some employees, but on the contribution of each employee. Customer service is also no exception. Every employee has to understand that the organization and its progress depend on good customer service. The institution should also not hesitate to encourage and adopt new ideas. Various steps taken out of the box make the business establishment stand out from the crowd. Attracts customers and helps in keeping them connected to the organization. Studies have proved that the world’s top and most successful companies have worked systematically to continuously improve their customer service. For them, customer service is not just the cost of word of mouth but also the basis of the existence of the company. In fact, with a ‘commitment’ to customer service, any business entity can achieve its ultimate goal of progress, success and profitability. All that is needed is to understand this and adopt this mantra.

In the big cities these days one can find midwives, nurses and lady doctors. But in the villages it is still the illiterate midwives who dominate the delivery rooms and in the near future there is little hope of any change in this situation.

Babu Maheshnath was the jamindar of his village – an educated man and aware of the need for reform in the way babies were delivered. But he saw no way to overcome the obstacles to such reform. No nurse would agree to go out to serve the villagers and if on perusation one agreed, she would demand such a fantastic fee that Babu Sahib had no option bu come away his head abjectly bowed. He did not dare approach the lady doctor; to pay one of them he might have had/got to sell half of his property. And so after three daughters, when his fourth child, a son, was born, once again he sent a word to Gudar and his wife. Children are apt to be born mostly at night. It happened that on midnight a servant from Babu Sahib’s house shouted so loudly at Gudar’s door that he woke up the whole neighbourhood. It was no girl this time for him to make a call in a feeble voice.

If any idea could comfort that poor wretched now, it was that the deeds of his previous existence were bearing fruit bearing fruit now! What is a perfectly free person? Evidently, a person who can do what he likes, when he likes, and where he likes, or do nothing at all if he prefers it. Well, there is no such person, and there never can be any such person.
