Punjab comprises 22 districts, which collectively house a total of 3,809 Post Offices. The distribution of these Post Offices varies by district, with Amritsar having the highest number at 377 Post Offices. In contrast, Fazilka district has only one Post Office.
Each Post Office in Punjab is assigned a unique Pin Code. The Pin Code system helps identify the location of each Post Office and its corresponding district. The first two digits of the Pin Code indicate the state, as each state has a specific code. The remaining digits specify the district and the individual Post Office.
The growing demand for telephone services and the deregulation of the industry have led to an increase in the number of landline and mobile telephone companies operating in Punjab. Some of the prominent service providers include Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Idea, Jio, Tata Docomo, Vodafone, and T24 Mobile.
BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) is notable for being the only cellular service provider with coverage in all major cities of Punjab, as well as along all major highways in the state. BSNL also offers international roaming services in partnership with over 300 networks worldwide. Additionally, various Broadband Plans are available in Punjab to cater to the different needs of customers.
