This chapter is about two friends who love learning about new places. They read a magazine about Thailand and use a globe to find it. The lesson tells about Thailand's history, people, temples, beaches, markets, food, festivals, and dances. It also talks about what to pack for a trip abroad.
This story is about two friends, Gargi and Pema, who love reading about new places.
Gargi and Pema love learning about different places. One day, Gargi sees Pema reading a travel magazine about Thailand and asks to look. Pema says yes, and they see colorful pictures. They use a globe to find Thailand, which is far beyond Myanmar from their home in Sikkim.
Thailand was once called Siam, with Ayutthaya as its old capital. Now, Bangkok is the main city with the most people. Many follow Buddhism, a religion from Gautam Buddha, and visit wats, which are special temples. The White Temple in Chiang Rai is unique with art of old stories and modern characters showing good and bad characters.
In the south, Thailand has pretty beaches and islands like Phi Phi and Ko Samui, loved by tourists. There are also floating markets where people sell goods from small boats, a fun thing for visitors. Thai food is delicious with soups, salads, noodles, and seafood, and each area has its own taste.
Late March is special for the kite festival when the weather is nice, making it the best time to visit. Traditional dances are bright and lively, like the fingernail dance with brass nails from the north. After reading, the girls think it was wonderful and plan to visit Thailand when they grow up.
Learning about other countries is fun and can inspire us to travel.
