The economic liberalization that began in India in 1991 has brought about significant changes to the country's social structure, particularly in terms of social stratification.

This shift from a controlled economy to a market-oriented one has transformed class structures and patterns of consumption.

Influence on Traditional Social Stratification:

• Weakening of Caste-Based Occupations: Economic liberalization has opened up opportunities beyond traditional caste-based jobs, allowing individuals to pursue various professions regardless of their caste.
• Changing Rural Social Dynamics: The migration of people from rural areas to urban centers for better job prospects has significantly altered the social fabric of rural communities.
• Consumer-Based Identities: Social status is increasingly defined by brand consciousness and consumption patterns. The new middle class, in particular, has embraced "conspicuous consumption," where displaying wealth through luxury goods has become a status symbol.

Emergence of New Class Structures:

• Rise of the Middle Class: Economic liberalization has fueled the growth and diversification of the middle class, which has been expanding at a rate of 6.3% per year between 1995 and 2021.

Changing Consumption Patterns:
